Get Involved
There are so many actions that you can take to get involved in our cause. To make this easier, we have separated this up into the following categories:
Visible acts of protest:
- Wear your promise pin upside down
- Wear a progressive pride badge
- Display your own GATE badge
- Wear a trans pride necker (available from the Scout Store)
- Change your profile pictures on social media to show your support (find some on the resources page)
Individual tasks:
- Write to your Guiding commissioners about how you feel, and what action you might, or already have, taken because of this decision
-
Write to your local MP, MSP, MSS or MLA, depending on your location, about the decision and how you want them to fight it
For letter templates, please look at our resources page.
In unit activities:
A challenge pack for units is currently being created, so keep your eyes peeled on this website and on socials for more information regarding this. While waiting for this to come out consider doing the following:
- For Guide and Ranger aged members, look at the Take Action interest badges of campaigning and protesting. They could write letters to Girlguiding HQ about the decision
- Establish yourself as a safe person within the unit for young members and parents to talk to, only if you feel safe to do so
- On our resources page, we have an activity sheet to design
Signing petitions and shared letters:
There are presently two major petitions we recommend you look at signing:
Allow transgender women and girls back into GirlGuiding UK - Change.org
Letter of intent to resign - Change.org
Joining protests:
Protests are currently being organised in the following cities:
Cardiff - 10th January 2026
Manchester - 10th January 2026
Birmingham - 10th January 2026
Please keep an eye on our social media pages for more details regarding these protests closer to the time.
#GATEOnline:
We are aware that protests are not always accessible to everyone, for numerous different reasons, and so GATE online is our online protest, a collection of projects anyone can join in with as much or as little as they want. Projects are initially launched on our Instagram page @GuidersAgainstTransExclusion, so please follow to stay up to date.
Current projects are:
- Deadline 2nd Jan - Mascot design competition - We want a mascot to represent hope and the fight for a better future. Please send us a design with the name of your mascot and a short bio about them to our email guidersagainsttransexclusion@gmail.com with the subject "Mascot" or use the Contact Us form on this website
- Virtual Camp Blanket - Design a badge to add to our virtual camp blanket, either using the template or your own creative skills, digital or hand made, and send it to us via the contact form or our email above
- Send in your testimony - Send us your story about how this decision has made you feel or affected you and people you know. You can send this via the testimony form or use the contact us page or email to send us an audio or video testimony instead (Please do this only if you are happy for us to share this on our public pages)
- Sing-a-long - Listen to the guide track of thunderation, and send us the recording of you (and your friends) singing along to create a huge choir of everyone's voices singing together, creating a... sensation!
