Speak Up for trans girls!

Our focus this week is on speaking up - take a stand and raise your voice to support trans people. The Speak Up action pillar for our 100 for 100 campaign focuses on communication with elected officials and institutions through letters, emails, and creative communications to help make an impact and apply direct pressure towards policy changes.

This focuses on sending letters and emails, having conversations, busting myths and encouraging others to speak up too. It is really important to raise our voices and tell decision makers that this policy change was wrong.

How can you take part?

Instant actions: like and share our campaign launch post! 🎉

Write to decision makers ✍️:

• Communicate with your MP and other representatives

• Send letters to the King about Girlguiding’s Royal Charter

• Write emails demanding inclusion

• Write letters to Girlguiding about your concerns - put these in the post!

• Sign inclusion statements - try using Trans+ Solidarity Alliance and TransActual’s email tool about scrapping the bathroom ban or sign our petition if you haven’t yet

Start conversations 🗣️: 

• Talk about allyship and bystander intervention

• Have informative talks with people who have questions

• Put posters up - check out ours or make your own!

• Tell us your coming out story (anonymously if needed)

• Help us translate “trans girls belong in Girlguiding” into 100 languages!

• Ask allies to record themselves saying “trans girls belong in Girlguiding” (we have another challenge for members!)

• Reflect on the Promise and what it means to you - you could do this as a unit activity! Check out a moving example on our YouTube channel

• Bust myths that others may have about the trans community

Uplift the trans community 🥳: 

• Write words of encouragement online

• Leave positive comments

• Write letters of support for young trans people

• Share trans icons that have inspired you

• Tell us books or stories that have trans characters, queer storylines or promote inclusion

If you want to know what the GATE lead volunteer team has been up to, we had an all members call on Sunday, and you can find it on YouTube. This goes over everything we’ve done so far and gives you more information on how to get involved! This includes opening up new roles to help our community run our community - let us know via our information form or email if you’d like to take on some extra responsibilities, we’ll start working through offers and replying next week. We’ve been so amazed by everyone who has signed up so far!
